25 November 2020 – Our new edible playground

Dear Parents,

I am writing with some exciting news! As a school, we have secured funding to build an edible playground through the charity Trees for Cities.

This edible playground will provide us with two spaces to teach outside of the classroom and engage children in lively and multi-sensory learning about growing and eating healthy foods.

The playgrounds will be constructed in two parts: one part in the KS2 playground behind the existing green shed and one part at the end of the KS1 playground. There will be a number of different elements to the edible playgrounds including:

  • flowerbeds
  • mini greenhouses
  • benches
  • compost bins and a wormery
  • a whiteboard
  • gardening tools

Work will start on Monday 30 November

The garden will be completed by Friday 11 December.

All relevant health and safety measures will be in place and the areas will be fenced off securely, but please be aware when entering and leaving the site.

As always, we will continue to abide by the school’s Risk Assessment in relation to COVID-19, and the contractors have their own self-contained facilities.

Please see the plans below for more detail.

Yours sincerely,

Miss C Brice
