16th February 2021 – Fairtrade Fortnight

Dear Parents,

As some of you may be aware, Fairtrade Fortnight began on Monday 22 February.

For two weeks each year at the end of February and start of March, thousands of schools across the UK come together to raise awareness of Fairtrade, sharing the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks, mine our gold and who grow the cotton in our clothes. These people are often exploited and underpaid.

In 2021, Fairtrade Fortnight will feel different. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to run the activities we have done previously. However, lesson time in school and remotely will still be used to provide children with opportunities to undertake activities where they learn about Fairtrade and the changes we can make.

Your child will also be asked to take part in a poster competition to raise awareness of Fairtrade, using the knowledge gained during lessons. Their work will be displayed in school and on our school website.

We will also be giving away two Fairtrade Hampers as prizes for the best learning about Fairtrade. The staff team will choose one winner from the children who are in school learning and one winner from the children who are completing home learning. All work about Fairtrade needs to be submitted to your child’s class teacher by Thursday 4 March so winners can be chosen on Friday 5 March.

Your child’s teacher will provide more information on the types of activities that will take place in their Year Group.

Yours sincerely,

Miss C Brice
